The "Mimbres Mixtecos" are hand-woven plastic baskets made by Delia and her mother (the Miguel family). Both belong to the Mixteken, one of the 61 indigenous peoples of Mexico (derived from the Nahuatl language of Mixtecapan = "people from the cloud country" or Mixtecatl = "cloud people").
Their community, the Cuicatlan, have rethought their traditional folk art and adapted it to modern needs. For example, they use newer materials such as plastic for the baskets in order to guarantee a higher durability and at the same time maintain the old practice of hand weaving.
The colourful, braided baskets with their geometric, traditional patterns are ideal as covers for larger plants. They look good both individually and in groups, and add colour to any room. They are particularly light and easy to clean. Since the baskets are not waterproof, the use of a saucer is recommended.
The basket Mimbres Mixtecos #2 is made of plastic, has a diameter of approx. 26 cm and a height of approx. 27 cm.
The baskets of the Miguel family are created in collaboration and with the help of P.I. Project from France. By buying a basket you support Mexican artisans and contribute to the preservation of their cultural heritage.
P.I. is an abbreviation for "Intangible Heritage" (in Spanish "Patrimonio Inmaterial") and stands for the knowledge, techniques and talent of Mexican communities, passed down from generation to generation, expressed in handmade products.
